The Bussani Mobility Story

From Then to Now!

A brief stay at an Army Hospital during the Vietnam era was the catalyst for John Bussani’s vision to improve the quality of life for veterans and ultimately many other people.  In 1974, John began his family owned business out of the trunk of his car by offering the installation of hand controls in vehicles.  Over the next few years, news spread by word of mouth.  People learned about a service that would enable handicapped individuals to claim not only mobility, but more importantly independence.  Before long, folks from all over Long Island and the five Boroughs were reaching out to John for assistance.  He was onto a life changing product – John’s vision was, without a doubt, something people wanted and needed – mobility and freedom.

By 1980 in John’s first facility in Freeport, New York, it was commonplace to witness the removal of a van’s roof and replacing it with a raised fiberglass top.  Cutting the floors out of vans and making them lower so a wheelchair user could drive him/herself, or be transported, was an everyday occurrence.   During the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, the Bussani Team grew as well as the expectations of their clientele.  John and his team rose to the occasion by assisting people with custom requests and high tech modifications.  From vacuum gas and brake systems, foot and electronic steering systems, there was not anything J. Bussani Inc. could not deliver and deliver it well!

The 1990’s was a great time for the mobility industry.  There were a few enterprising companies who found ways to mass produce van conversions thereby reducing the time clients had to wait for their modified vehicles.  This point in time was the most pivotal time in the company’s history.  Things continued to improve not only for the Bussani Business but, more importantly, for the clientele they served.  John hired Peter Zarba, a wheelchair user himself.  Peter was able to connect, guide and support clients while John focused on the technical side of the business.  The result was a perfect blending of two talented men which enriched the lives of their patrons.

Bussani Mobility continued to grow and change with the industry and the world at large.  To that end, their logo has been redesigned to incorporate the newest vision “The Team”.  No one person is responsible for our clients – everyone on the Bussani Team is available to deliver the best, state of the art service to our customers.  The service department is better than ever; those in need can be sure of our 24/7 service delivery.  To maintain current within the industry, the sales force and the service technicians attend schools and seminars offered by the manufacturers we represent.  We sponsor and attend many community events and fund-raisers around the tri-state area.  Bussani Mobility proudly hosts an annual Open House to provide our clients and friends exposure as to what is new and available in the industry.  Our goal is simple – we strive toward making life easier, more manageable and much richer for our clients.

Today, Bussani Mobility is home to two facilities; one serving Long Island and the New York metropolitan area; the second, Westchester and its surrounding areas.  John and his incredibly service-driven team are quite proud of the long list of accomplishments over the past 37 years.  Now, onto the second generation, Dan Bussani partners with his Dad to continue the focus on providing impeccable service in everyway possible.

Please feel free to click through our newly designed website or drop by one of our two locations.  The Bussani Team would welcome the opportunity to meet you, show you around and provide you with a glimpse of what is available and demonstrate how we can serve you.
